Reggie Dropped the Hammer on Amazon Back in the Day
Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé just revealed some serious behind-the-scenes drama from the DS era. Apparently, an Amazon executive called him up asking Nintendo to do something "illegal" during their partnership discussions. Reggie's response? Hard pass.
The man refused to elaborate on exactly what Amazon wanted, but considering this was during the DS's golden years, it probably involved some shady distribution or pricing schemes. Props to Reggie for keeping Nintendo clean while other companies were probably bending over backwards for Amazon's demands.
Oscars Ban AI Films, Gaming Awards Should Follow
The Academy Awards just announced they're barring AI-generated films from Oscar consideration. Meanwhile, gaming awards are still playing it fast and loose with AI content submissions.
This needs to happen yesterday in gaming. We're already seeing AI-generated art, music, and even voice acting creeping into indie titles. If we don't draw clear lines now, the 2027 Game Awards could turn into a showcase for ChatGPT's greatest hits. Nobody wants that future.
SNES Emulation Gets a Legendary Comeback
The original developers behind ZSNES are back with "Super ZSNES," a modern take on their classic Super Nintendo emulator. For anyone who grew up playing ROMs in the early 2000s, ZSNES was THE way to experience SNES games on PC.
A modernized version from the actual creators could shake up the emulation scene. RetroArch and other frontends have dominated lately, but there's something appealing about a focused, single-system emulator built by the people who defined SNES emulation in the first place.
Invincible VS Gets Leaked Character Roster
Data miners apparently cracked open Invincible VS and found evidence of upcoming DLC characters, including what looks like a Spider-Man reference featuring J.K. Simmons. That's either his voice as J. Jonah Jameson or some seriously weird crossover territory.
Fighting game leaks are basically tradition at this point, but a potential Marvel crossover would be wild. Invincible already proved superhero brawlers can work when done right. Adding Spider-Man universe characters could turn this into something special, assuming the lawyers don't kill it first.
