The Elder Scrolls VI: Still Playing Hard to Get

Another Xbox Games Showcase came and went without a peep from The Elder Scrolls VI. Fans who were teenagers when Skyrim launched are now approaching their thirties, and Bethesda keeps treating their most anticipated game like it's classified intel.

The take: Todd Howard's radio silence is getting ridiculous. We get it, Starfield needed attention, but throwing fans a single screenshot or concept art wouldn't kill you. At this rate, Elder Scrolls VI will launch when we're all playing games through neural implants.

Amazon Still Chasing That Lord of the Rings High

Despite canceling their Lord of the Rings MMO, Amazon says they're still dead set on making a Middle-earth game. The company apparently learned nothing from their New World struggles and thinks they can crack the fantasy RPG code.

The take: Amazon has unlimited money but zero gaming street cred. They killed Crucible, New World peaked for about five minutes, and now they want to tackle Tolkien's universe? Maybe stick to shipping packages and leave game development to people who actually understand what makes games fun.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Teases More Sephiroth Drama

Square Enix dropped another trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and fans are dissecting every frame like it's the Zapruder film. Apparently there's a blink-and-miss-it scene with Cloud and Sephiroth that might contain major spoilers, or might be cleverly edited misdirection.

The take: Square Enix knows exactly what they're doing. They've turned FF7 remake speculation into an art form, and fans eat it up every time. Whether it's real spoilers or fake-outs, they've mastered the hype machine for this trilogy.

Gears of War E-Day Promises Fresh Start

Microsoft showcased Gears of War: E-Day as a complete franchise reboot. The Coalition is going back to basics, ditching the convoluted storylines of recent entries for something that supposedly captures the original trilogy's magic.

The take: Smart move. Gears 4 and 5 felt like they were chasing trends instead of defining them. Going back to the Locust War's origins could work, but they need to nail the tone. The original Gears was lightning in a bottle, and recapturing that seventeen years later won't be easy.
